INCONTOURNABLE !

Authentic afrobeat that sounds straight out of Lagos circa late 70s early 80's - fans of Tony Allens solo recordings will love this, issued on 12" to give ample time to groove. It stands up against original and the best new afrobeat. One for the record collection! Martin Lawrie's review (soulgeneration - UK)

There is no doubt: the most exciting afrobeat combo of the moment is French and is called FANGA ! Do not miss them in concert if they play in your country !!!
“Crache La Douleur” long edit (11'13) feat. Tony Allen was already playlisted by Gilles Peterson & many others and offered here in a totally new remastered version more powerful and percussive than ever that will make you feel Fanga is playing in your living room. The highlight of this new release from Les Disques Cosmic Groove is "Noble Tree" feat. Segun Damisa (9'30) and the amazing remix version feat. Mike Ladd (4'30), who transcend the already terrific track in a totally new monster, adding a pinch of spiritual jazz feeling, a super dope dancefloor oriented broken beat and some joyful eerie female vocals. A totally new approach of the now standard Fanga's cut that demonstrates that Fanga has now become a super famous and talented band and that The Cosmic Groove is a label you now have to consider as a super groove and beats seeker! An astral travelling from Lagos to France! Don't miss it !!!
COSMIC GROOVE is proud to present the 11th release

It bewitched Ethiopia during the "Swinging Addis" decade before recently winning the favours of a well-informed audience all over the world. This first vinyl volume of "Ethiopian Urban Modern Music" presents some of the Ethiopian "groove jewels"! Tracks include "Muziqawi Silt" by Wallias Band, "Hasabe" by Ayalew Mesfin, "Antchin Yagegnulet" by Tamrat Ferendji, "Amlak Abet Abet" by Asselfetch Ashine & Getenesh Kebret, "Temeles" by Alemayehu Eshete & Hirut Bequele & "Aynotchesh Yerefu" by Samuel Belay.
Alèmayèhu Eshèté is no less than one of the great voices of the heyday of modern Ethiopian music – the swinging sixties which, in this country, went on until the fall of the Emperor Haile Sellassie 1 in 1974. On a part with Tlahoun Gèssèssè or Mahmoud Ahmed, Alèmayèhu is a star at the top level of the constellation that once lit up the wild nights in the capital. titles include "Yeweb Dar", "Tashamanaletch", "Telantena Zare", "Feqer Feqer New", "Hameta", "Tey Gedyeleshem", "Eskegizew Bertchi" & "Quondjit".
Once upon a time there was a shoe-shine boy who went on to become one of his country's biggest stars, opening the door of Ethiopian music to Western audiences. A fantastic record mixing brassy, danceable urban jazz, off-key crooners & african rhythms: a rich and stirring patchwork of sounds, crossing afro-beat, latino-swing moves and Eastern arabesques. Some musicians present on this session have also played with Mulatu Astatke. 8 titles including "Abbay Mado / Embwa Bèlèw" and "Erè Mèla Mèla / Mètché Nèw".
Enormous coup de Coeur for this killer Ethiopian instrumental jazz with heavy hypnotic and exotic afro grooves! Mulatu’s true singularity resides in his efforts in favour of instrumental music, in a country where there was no ancestral tradition to speak.
For what would be his last recording, the troublemaker Philippe Nicaud offers up a new anthological work, of which the unequivocal title is in itself a concentrate of the Man’s life’s philosophy. The aptly named “C’ex” follows directly in the footsteps of cult album “Erotico…Nicaud”, released 1 year previous: insolent, irresistible and wickedly effective. A monument of Latin funk and exotic jerk featuring Hammond organ among a farandole of diabolic instruments and epileptic drums without moderation. 7-inch from original master tapes. Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.
Pop incarnate and ferocious political farce, the cult film “Mister Freedom”, directed by American photographer William Klein, enjoys a highly colourful musical score, concocted by winning duo Serge Gainsbourg/Michel Colombier. A delectable EP of pop, jerk, comic strip and counter-culture with the cuts “Oh Beautiful! Oh Beautiful! America! America!”, “Mister Freedom March”, “No No Yes Yes”, “Freedom Baby”, “Freedom Rock” & “Mister Freedom”. EP from original master tapes. Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.
A cult score! Roland Vincent offers here charming jazz/pop fantasy, Miles Davis-like concerto alongside with one of the French rare groove’s most emblematic anthems: “LSD Partie”. Already available
on the “Shake Sauvage” compilation and on the “Ocean’s Twelve” score (David Holmes), this cut is an epileptic jerk thick with wah wah guitar, a bouncing bass and fierce Hammond organ. Other titles are “Concerto Pour Delphine”, “Embouteillage” & “A La miles”. From original master tapes. Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.
A shining, precious jewel which accepts its comparison with the so British elegance of the famous “Bedazzled” by Dudley Moore, released in the same era! A masterpiece with a touch of madness, lyrical phases, with some sweet but heavy going easy listening and bossa tracks, subtly pop-tinged jazz with inventive instrumentation and a series of electronic jerks. Cuts are “Generique”, “Ballet Photo Rouge”, “Ballade Dans Paris La Nuit”, “Poursuite Jaguar”, “Baiser”, “Promenade Au Luxembourg”, “Kam-Tcha-Tka”, “Leslie’s Jerk”, “Sortie Metro”, “Clara’s Jerk”, “Top Cover Girl”, “Ballade Dans Paris” and “Robe Rose”. The elegance of the Swingin’ 60’s! LP 180g from original master tapes. Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.
At the end of the 60’s, nobody might have known that MP 2000 would become such an authority on music according to some talented musicians and DJs of the world. Dozens of talentuous musicians as Framond, Vander, Pedersen, Giordano or Nilovic made gave library music his letters patent of novibility. Here is 14 tremendous titles from the archives of MP2000 (French label).
Released at the dawn of the 70’s on Egg, the excellent French pop/progressive label, both songs evolve within an excellent soul and rock register, tinted with wonderful shades of psychedelia, dazzling fuzz & wah-wah guitars, drum break intro and sonic Hammond organ. A real gem! SP from original master tapes. Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.
One of the most audacious duos of their time! The magic tandem offered to George Lautner’s delectable thriller Le Pacha a cult status with its fabulous score. The two men capture the essence of this pop and psychedelic era to compose two incredible themes for this now historical 7”. “Requiem Pour Un Con” is an abstract robotic funk and pre-rap tune with an amazing & famous drum beat. “Psychastenie” is an obsessive jerk and its sinusoidal sitar infused with the heavy scent of psychedelic nirvana. SP from original master tapes.
Limited numbered edition. Original artwork.

Behind a scandalous Aslan-signed sleeve, here is one of the strangest reflections of the sexual revolution that was taking place in France in the 60’s and 70’s. An excessively kitsch musical UFO, furiously pop and totally cult. Highlights go to the updriving “Cover Girl”, “Bonne Nuit… Chuck” & “Cuisses Nues… Bottes De Cuir”, the bossa-like “Breve Rencontre” & “Separation” plus “Tout Bas, Tout Bas”, “Une Fille Doit Savoir Tout Faire De Ses Dix Doigts”, “La Marie Des Champs”, “Leger, Leger”, “La Minette De L’archiduchesse”, “Les Cigales… Et Les Fourmis” & “Le Jardin Merveilleux”. 180g LP from original master tapes.
